9 Ways You Can Help During the Coronavirus Outbreak TODAY

As we watch the news and see the world around us become almost unrecognizable, it is hard to think to greener days ahead. But, they are there waiting for us and we will make it through to them - together. I think now, more than ever, we must stand together and find ways to support one another in whatever way we can -big or small. Here are just some of the ways we can help during this time:

Reach out to someone who may feel especially alone

I think this is the easiest way to make an impact during this time - and it costs you nothing. Take a few moments to reach out to those who may not have a big support network around them - especially the elderly.

Support our healthcare workers and support staff

Send lunch or dinner to a hospital floor or medical facility. This is a wonderful way to put a smile on their face and offer a short break from the many hours these individuals are putting in. If you work with a business, consider coordinating with them and their team to offer an even more substantial number of meals

Venmo/Paypal your favorite artists

I think we have seen more than ever that art is the escape that all of us need. Whether it is a singer, fitness trainer, or drag queen, these people are bringing a bit of happiness into each of our homes with online shows and content. Send them a tip for the smile they bring to your face. As my good friend Dixie says, “You won’t miss it and they will ever forget it.”

Pay Now. Enjoy Later.

WIth so many local restaurants and boutiques struggling, consider buying a gift card to be used when business is back to normal. This infusion of cash may be the difference between this place being there for you to enjoy or not. Also, consider reaching out to your service providers (hair stylists, manicurists, etc.) to see if you can prepay for a future appointment.

Be conscientious of your social media posts

Again, one I think is pretty easy. We are inundated with news and stories of sadness, suffering, and death. Before you post another of these, consider if it will cause additional fear and grief. If so, maybe rethink this. We need examples of our communities coming together and supporting one another more than anything else right now.

Organize & Donate

This is the best time to go through your closets and drawers and do a little spring cleaning. Get rid of those things you don’t want and consider donating them to a local organization to help those in need. I just went through and donated a few boxes of those hotel toiletries we all pick up on our travels. Message me if you want the info for where to send these!

Think if it is time for a pet

Help reduce the strain on shelters and consider if the time is right to foster a pet. Not only will this be sure to bring some companionship to your life, it can also be a lifesaver for an animal who can’t adjust to shelter life. Find out more at the Humane Society.

Bartender Emergency Assistance Program

Over 5% of the population is employed in “food preparation and serving related occupations.” Let’s face it, we rely on these people during better times and they are in crisis mode right now. Consider a donation to this organization or ones like it where these individuals can apply for a grant to help during these times.

Stay Home.

Enough said.
