Gregory Kiep Interview Anne Steele for Gaycation Magazine

Anne Steele, crowd favorite on many Atlantis Events, R Family Vacations, The Broadway Cruise, and RSVP cruises, is headed to Los Angeles for a show and would like to send a special invite to her Gaycation Magazine fans! If you have not seen her and are in the area, you will not want to miss out!

“For anyone who has ever had the infinite pleasure of hearing the gorgeous soaring voice of beautiful songbird Anne Steele, one thing has always been quite certain: this enchanting performer has the looks, the personality and most of all, the chops to go far.”
Daryl Glenn for NighlifeExchange.com

We sat down with her for a few moments to ask her a couple questions…

Tell me about your first singing memory – what made you do what you do?

I started singing at a very young age. My mother and grandmother were both singers and I was born into it. I can remember being a little girl and talking all of my friends into playing the orphans in my full scale productions of Annie on my front porch. My mother was always Miss Hannigan and I have to say we were kind of the toast of Shelbyville, Indiana where I grew up. After that, I never looked back.

You have travelled with Atlantis Events and RSVP Vacations – how is that?

I adore working Atlantis and RSVP! I could never ask for a better audience than that. I truly feel like I have found my place in the world surrounded by all of those fantastic gay men that just “get me”. Being an out lesbian singer, I feel so comfortable sharing my own story with them and celebrating all of our diversity through music. I always look forward to the cruises and resorts with them so I can make music and so many incredible friends.

Who are some of the icons that you admire in your career?

I learned to sing by listening to Barbra Streisand and Whitney Houston. They completely shaped who I am as a singer. I learned nuance and strength by studying they work over the years. My contemporary favorites are Kelly Clarkson, Pink and Sara Bareilles. I am just beginning to write music for myself and all of these women are not only incredible singers, but they write and perform their own material which completely inspires me.

If you could be any place in the world, right now? Where would it be?

Anywhere my wife is. I am truly in love and have never known a feeling of joy and peace that I do now. If you are referring to a specific place, I would love to be back in Mykonos, Greece. That is where we spent our honeymoon and I will never forget it. I also spent a summer there, years ago, singing in a piano bar, and it was a truly life-changing time for me. Mykonos will forever hold my heart.

Ok, in one sentence – why should Gaycation Magazine readers check out your upcoming show?

If you love killer music, fun stories and a night you will never forget, Anne Steele will deliver all of that and more in an exciting one night only event!

Also, I will be releasing my very first ORIGINAL EP on Feb 21st at Joe’s Pub in NYC and on March 22 at Rockwell Table and Stage in LA. Check for more details at www.annesteele.com
